[In Context] Remembering the man behind An Essay on the Shaking Palsy
On Nov 16, 2017, a committed group of James Parkinson aficionados met for a historical walk at the Arnold Circus Bandstand, on the boundary between Bethnal Green and Shoreditch (London, UK), guided by retired local GP Dr Chris Derrett. The walk, followed by a lecture programme, was in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Parkinson's Essay on the Shaking Palsy, but by contrast with many of the other events held last year in his memory, this event was less about the disease that bears his name, and more about the man himself: the writer, the activist, the geologist, and the medic.
